Astrology 101 · Chapter 4

The ten planets

Each planet is a part of you: how you think, love, act, grow and change.

In astrology the Sun and Moon are counted with the planets. The personal planets move quickly and describe everyday life: Mercury is how you think and communicate, Venus how you love and what you value, and Mars how you go after what you want.

Jupiter and Saturn are the social planets. Jupiter shows where you grow, open up and find luck; Saturn shows where you meet limits, responsibility and long lessons that turn into mastery. Uranus, Neptune and Pluto move so slowly that they mark whole generations; in a personal chart their house and aspects matter more than their sign.

We also include the North Node, a calculated point rather than a planet. It is where the Moon's path crosses the Sun's, and astrologers read it as the direction of growth, with the opposite South Node as the familiar comfort zone.
